Who we are?
The Department of Civil Aviation is part of the Ministry of Transport and Public Works. The department is responsible for the management of controlled airspace, aviation infrastructure and the safety regulation of Civil Aviation in Malawi.
Airworthiness
Airworthiness is a section within the Regulatory Division. The Airworthiness Section is under obligation for the oversight of International Civil Aviation Standard and Recommended Practices requirements. Airworthiness responsibilities include the following functions:
Air Transport Planning
Air Transport Planning section is responsible for Economic regulations of Air Transport, Air Services Development and Promotions. It also oversees maintaining and fostering relations, cooperation and coordination with regional and international bodies.
Air Traffic Management
This section is responsible for the management and operation of Air traffic services and Search and Rescue within the Lilongwe Flight Information Region (FIR). This includes:
Personnel Licensing
Personnel Licensing (PEL) is a section within the Regulatory Division. The Personnel Licensing Section is under obligation for the oversight of ICAO Annex 1 Standard and Recommended Practices (SARPS) requirements. The Five Functions of PEL are:

Definition: "Remotely piloted aircraft" (RPA) means an unmanned aircraft which is piloted from a remote pilot station.
