The 41st Ordinary SADC Summit of Heads of State and Government will be held at the Bingu International Convention Centre (BICC), which is located at the centre of the Capital City of Lilongwe, 25 kilometres from the Kamuzu International Airport. During the Summit, the BICC will also be the venue for the following:-
i) Organ Troika Summit, Ministerial and Senior Officials meetings
ii) Official Opening Ceremony
iii) Welcoming State Banquet
iv) Family (group) photograph for the Heads of State and Government
v) Joint press conferences
The following facilities will be available at the Bingu International Convention Centre:-
i) Holding rooms for the Heads of State and Government
ii) Conference rooms with translation equipment, projectors and computers
iii) Secretariat Office
iv) Overflow rooms for roundtables and meetings
v) 2 Medical rooms
vi) Internet and Wi-Fi services
vii) Travel Reservations Centre
viii) An Ambulance
ix) COVID-19 Testing Center

Bingu International Convention Centre (BICC)
The SADC Secretariat will communicate the final programme for the meetings.
Standing Committee of Senior Officials and Finance Committee Meetings
The SADC Standing Committee of Senior Officials and Finance Committee Meetings will be held from 10th to 12th August, 2021 at the Bingu International Convention Centre.
Both Standing Committee of Senior officials and Finance Committee Meetings will be strictly restricted to the Head of Delegation and 2 officials per member country. These officials will be identified by a pass that will grant them access to the meeting room. These passes can be rotated amongst a member country delegation.
Council of Ministers’ Meeting
The Council of Ministers Meeting will take place from 14th to 15th August, 2021, at the Bingu International Convention Centre.
The number of delegates accompanying the Minister to the meeting will be strictly restricted to three (3) officials per member country. These officials will be identified by a pass granting them access to the meeting room. During this session, passes can be rotated amongst a member country delegation.
The SADC Secretariat will manage delegate access to the Ministerial Meeting.
Official Opening Ceremony
The official opening of the 41st Ordinary Summit of SADC Heads of State and Government will take place on the morning of 17th August, 2021 at the Bingu International Convention Centre. The ceremony will be attended by the Heads of State and Government and their Spouses, Foreign Ministers, other Ministers from country delegations, Special guests, Malawian Officials, Forum delegates and other guests that will be invited to the event. However, due to the prevailing COVID 19 Pandemic, the Government of the Republic of Malawi will institute strict preventive measures which may include restricting the number of the invited guests to the Official Opening Ceremony.
The invitations shall be issued in Malawi through the Liaison Officers for the respective delegations.
Immediately after the Official opening, the Heads of State and Government will gather for the official group photograph.
To welcome Heads of State and Government to Malawi, the President of the Republic of Malawi will host a State Banquet on the evening of 16th August, 2021.
Attendance to the State Banquet will be strictly by invitation, where the invitation cards will be issued through the designated Liaison Officers for the respective delegations.
Delegations are, therefore, kindly being requested to provide dietary requirements for the Heads of State and Government.
The programme for Spouses of the Heads of State and Government will be held virtually on 17th August, 2021 by the host country. This programme will be scheduled to take place concurrently with the Heads of State and Government Meeting.

Reception for SADC Council
A reception for the SADC Council will be held on 14th August, 2021, where selected members of the Council and other invited guests are expected to attend. Attendance to this event will be strictly by invitation.
Private Programmes and Functions
All member countries that have private programmes or intending to host any private functions during the Summit are requested to provide an advance notice through their designated Liaison Officers to avoid possible inconveniences and to allow for the consideration of security arrangements.
Member countries are requested to note that all costs pertaining to hosting any private functions or programmes will be at the expense of the individual member countries. Read More
